March 25th 2019 – Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. Merkator provides software and services to Telecom Companies, SmartGrid Operators& Governments for key workflows that touch the “public domain”.
This week the CEO of the Belgian office, Geert De Coensel, has visited Oviedo, Asturias to formalize the formal constitution of the Company, located in Asturias Technological Park. He was welcomed by Eva Pando, General Director of IDEPA, entity that has provided full support about the issues concerning location and professional advice to the company for the implementation in the region through the “Invest in Asturias” program.
Merkator currently employs more than 75 experienced people and is supported by 4 offices: Belgium, two in The Netherlands and now new operations in Llanera, Asturias. The Company has an R&D center dedicated for creating software for complex workflows that have daily impact on the public domain. “Above the ground“ Merkator manages governmental permitting workflows for every intake of the public domain and “below the ground” Merkator has an in depth ICT-expertise and software solutions to manage buried/aerial/façade fiber (FttH), coax, electrical, gas, wastewater and waternetwork infrastructures.
The selection of Asturias as an investment location has been based on factors such as the high quality of existing human resources and the potential business collaborations derived from the presence of leading local partners in the field of geospatial information.
MERKATOR has shown interest in establishing alliances with entities such as the University of Oviedo and the Technological Centers located in Asturias, for which they will have the strong support of IDEPA as the main instrument of economic promotion in the region and responsible for the attraction and aftercare program for foreign direct investments. The Asturias operations will ramp up to a team of 5 domain experts before the end of the summer of 2019.
