The end of the Mercator world map?

African Union calls for a more accurate (and therefore larger) representation of the continent

The African Union supports the ‘Correct the map’ campaign, which aims to replace the world map as we know it—the Mercator projection—with a more modern and accurate projection. This new map would show Africa’s true size much more accurately, making the continent appear significantly larger.
