KLIM-CICC entrusts the management of the federal cable and pipeline portal to Merkator Group
November, 2024
KLIM-CICC, the non-profit organization that serves as the central information platform for reporting works to cable and pipeline managers at the federal level and in the Brussels and Walloon regions, has assigned the management of its digital platform to the Merkator Group. This platform plays a crucial role for contractors and engineering firms, enabling them to request plans for the safe execution of their work.
Centralized information portal for cables and pipelines
Through a centralized web platform, KLIM-CICC offers digital plans of the underground infrastructure belonging to its members. This portal serves as a vital source of information for contractors and engineering firms working on public and private land. It enables them to:
-
Check for the presence of pipelines transporting hazardous substances, high-voltage connections, and other cables or pipelines for gas, electricity, water, and telecom.
-
Notify responsible authorities of works, who in turn provide the required information.
Thanks to this platform, users receive an up-to-date overview of existing cables and pipelines, contributing to safe and efficient operations. This significantly reduces the risk of excavation damage and cable breakage.
Management transfer to Merkator Group
For the management of its IT platform, KLIM-CICC has chosen a specialized partner: the Merkator Group. Since July 5, 2024, Merkator, in collaboration with its subsidiary GIM, has been responsible for the platform's daily management, maintenance, and helpdesk services.
A future-ready platform with IMCC 3.0
Merkator has already modernized the platform infrastructure, focusing on enhanced security and robustness. A significant upcoming improvement is the introduction of IMKL/IMCC 3.0, the new standard for cable and pipeline information in Belgium. Starting mid-2025, cable and pipeline managers will be able to offer their plans in the IMKL/IMCC format alongside the existing PDF options.
A partner with proven expertise
The choice of Merkator as the new partner was based on its extensive expertise in managing and exchanging digital plans. Together with GIM, Merkator supports numerous cable and pipeline managers in providing plans via KLIM-CICC and the KLIP portal in Flanders. Merkator impressed with its reliable services and proactive approach.
What will change for users?
In the short term, not much will change for users. Merkator is already responsible for management and support, and the platform's functionalities remain almost identical. The most significant change will come in 2025 with the introduction of the IMKL/IMCC 3.0 format. To thoroughly inform and support its members and users during this transition, KLIM-CICC has planned an information campaign.
