KLIM-CICC, the non-profit organization that serves as the central information platform at the federal level and for Brussels and Wallonia for reporting works to cable and pipeline managers, has entrusted the management of its digital platform to Merkator Group. This platform plays a crucial role for contractors and engineering firms, who can request plans via KLIM-CICC—ensuring that work is carried out safely.

Central information portal for cables and pipelines

KLIM-CICC provides digital plans of its members’ underground infrastructure through a central web platform. This portal is an important source of information for contractors and engineering firms carrying out work on both public and private land. It enables them to:
  • Check whether there are any pipelines near their planned works that are used for transporting hazardous materials, high-voltage connections, or other cables and pipelines for gas, electricity, water, and telecom.
  • Report works to the responsible authorities, who then provide the necessary information.
Thanks to this platform, users get an up-to-date overview of existing cables and pipelines, contributing to safer and more efficient operations. As a result, the risk of excavation damage and cable breaks is significantly reduced.

Transfer of management to Merkator Group

For the management of its IT platform, KLIM-CICC has chosen a specialized partner: Merkator Group. Since July 5, 2024, Merkator—together with its subsidiary GIM—has been responsible for the daily management, maintenance, and helpdesk support of the platform.

A future-proof platform with IMKL 3.0

Merkator has already carried out a modernization of the platform infrastructure, focusing on enhanced security and robustness. An important upcoming innovation is the introduction of IMKL 3.0, the new standard for cable and pipeline information in Belgium. Starting mid-2025, cable and pipeline managers will be able to provide plans in the IMKL format, in addition to the existing PDF options.

Partner with expertise on board

The choice for Merkator as the new partner is based on their extensive expertise in managing and exchanging digital plans. Together with GIM, Merkator supports many cable and pipeline managers in making plans available via KLIM-CICC and the KLIP portal in Flanders. In addition, Merkator impressed with its reliable service and proactive approach.
